Cultural Mapping

Some Anthropologists have started collecting data regarding cultural resources, social networks of people and different patterns of usage of a given resource by a community in its geographic area.

According to some cultural mapping is nothing but analyzing cultures more systematically. The tool they cite is Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, which basically says people (or cultures) are different in the dimensions of Power Distance; Individualism; Masculinity and Uncertainty Avoidance.

It helps to identify the beliefs, attitudes, behaviour and social structures that shape human interactions in a particular area.

  1. In the process of cultural mapping, some people have started collecting, recording, analyzing and synthesizing information to describe the cultural resources, networks, links and patterns of usage of a given group.
